May passed us so quickly. From my mid-April update, I was setting myself up proper to study for the CompTIA Security+ certification exam; writing personal notes based off multiple sources, spending a reasonable amount of time each day learning and understanding core concepts, and running practice tests to gain an idea on where I was sitting with my understanding..

I had the itch to update my portfolio with some new approaches I have begun, however I was too invested in the studying, and could not reasonably find the time to work on projects. Instead however, I am even more proud to say that I have taken the Security+ exam and successfully passed! The hardwork and dedication has paid off yet again and another milestone has been achieved.

What Are My Current Focuses?

There is a sense of relief as my day-to-day routine does not currently include any studying. As I turn my focus to updating my resume and getting back out there with a solid foundation, I am also glad that as I look to next achievements I have some free time to check back in with my projects.

Some time in May I spent a day working on some final touches to a larger update to the Helldivers 2 website. One of the major changes is in the URL- I have moved from the Azure Static Web App to a quicker, more reliable ISP. I was finding the two to three minute delay in loading the site details negatively impacted the user experience; people were exiting the site before it had time to boot up and load.

One of the current main focuses regarding this project is to make a much more mobile-friendly interface for users. If you happen to check the website out and you are on a phone or tablet… I am sorry in advance. I am aware of the layout issues and am able to take some time to properly understand how to format for mobile. I will keep this blog posted on the progress.

In addition, I have began doing some personal reading into packet sniffers, more specifically creating my own packet sniffer from the bottom up. Currently, it is nothing crazy, but I can search for any hosts, and then watch their netflow. The real reason I began this sub-assignment is to better understand exactly how a packet sniffer is able to obtain the related data. It has been fascinating thus far, and I am hoping to do a bit of a write-up and upload it to the projects page on this blog. Using pyshark, I have been slowly creating my packet sniffer with the intention of using it in my home lab environment.

So yes, I am still active here and will continue to be. I am likely to put out a proper post regarding my Helldivers 2 project and the major updates I pushed to the live app.

I have also made major strides in achieving my current certification goals. Completing the Security+ exam has given me even more confidence to approach other certifications in the near future. The question then becomes exactly what to obtain next. Ideally, some hands-on experience would be fantastic. But we will get there. Slowly but surely.
