Mid-April Update: Current Focuses and Strategies

Nearing a month since my previous post, I wanted to provide some insight on my current focuses and what has kept me occupied for the past few weeks. There has been a lott pf progression regarding my personal app development, and I am utilizing an excellent studying strategy which is bringing closer to taking the CompTIA Security+ Exam.

Studying Strategy

After doing some research for best studying resources, I came across what is considered the top standard; Professor Messer’s free YouTube exam series. Noting key concepts, definitions, and principles has shown me the change of question-framing the exam may use. I find it most effective to have a hand-written list of these key terms that I can apply and refer to as I follow along with his video series.

I was also fortunate enough to have gained access to a MammothClub CompTIA Study Course a few months ago through a HumbleBundle Book Bundle. This is a great resource that can offer learning packages catered towards individuals in IT and more specifically cybersecurity. And the best part of the site is that it is designed to benefit charities; each bundle is dedicated to contrubiting a portion of your donation to the affiliated association partnered with the bundle.

My confidence on this material is increasing day after day and I am nearing the final test date.

A Vishing Incident I Came Across

Approximately two weeks ago, I received a phone call from a number that seemed unsuspicious. This led to me experiencing a vishing attempt, which I am currently finishing a write-up about. I am looking forward to discussing some anecdotes from the phone call and for potential red flags to watch for if you too receive a call of similar nature.

Progress on my Personal App
In the intermittent free time I have I've made some great progress regarding the Helldivers app. These changes thus far have not been pushed to the live build; there are still some fixes and alterations before I feel it is in a more rounded state. But here is a list of some additions and changes I have made which will be appearing soon:
  • The back-end code to the Major Order parser has been improved to minimize the rate of errors being displayed.
  • Readability and functionality has been improved on all pages.
  • Planets now are interactable ‘modals’ that display more in-depth information.
  • The Galactic Map is in an alpha state, with live-updating information and stat displaying.

I found incredible helping reaching out to the community discords for the HelldiversCompanion app and the Helldivers Wiki. They gave me insights as to how to draw the Galactic Map; an issue I have been scratching my head with since I began creating the project. I am excited to push those changes when I feel they are in a usable state.

Conclusion

The goal moving forward now towards the end of April is to finish final studying prep to then take the exam. I am nervous of course, but I am excited as this is another milestone in my journey towards certifying myself for the roles I desire. I am continuing to run practice modules in my private server, however this will ramp up as studying progresses. This spring will be an exciting time in this journey.
